The countless volunteers who don the distinctive yellow wellies are united by a fundamental impulse: to alleviate suffering. At Anstruther station in Scotland, a newcomer named George assumes command during his first major call – a serious medical evacuation. A woman has fallen on the Chain Walk, a particularly treacherous section of the station's territory where walkers must navigate steep cliffs, relying on chains embedded in the rock face for support. On Devon's north coast, the crew at Appledore station undertake a desperate rescue attempt to save two teenagers trapped in a cave, threatened by the rising tide and crashing waves. But upon reaching the scene, they realize that saving the young people will demand risking their own lives. And when Storm Henry batters the British Isles, forcing vessels to seek shelter, a cargo ship loses power and is tossed about at the mercy of the waves and gale-force winds. Drifting relentlessly toward the rugged cliffs of north Devon, two lifeboats are dispatched, but even working together, they face a daunting struggle to tow the massive ship clear of danger.
