Green and Cassady begin to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of Sean Archer, a producer who had recently welcomed a child from Africa with his wife, the celebrated actress Sofia. Archer was shot and killed outside an ice cream parlor while holding his infant son, Christopher. The shooting quickly draws attention to the controversial adoption of Christopher, which had garnered widespread scrutiny due to perceptions that the process had been expedited because of the family's fame. Initially tasked with investigating Archer’s murder, McCoy and Rubirosa find themselves embroiled in a case concerning a child’s death as questions arise about the true identity of baby Christopher.
