In their new townhouse, firefighter Thomas Cooper and his wife, Linda, are brutally murdered. The killings initially appear connected to a cold case involving narcotics, but detectives soon uncover a different thread: Nick Spence, a recent addition to Cooper's fire company who had been subjected to relentless hazing. The investigation is then complicated by Spence’s death in a fire, the circumstances of which are deeply troubling.
