The French term "petite mort" finds a grim reality in a forest near Nuremberg. Christian Ranstedt, a married man with two children, a professor at Erlangen University, and a well-regarded figure in Nuremberg, was fatally shot twice in the head while making love in his car. His wife, Julia, had believed him to be at the university. For her and their children, a world that had seemed unshakable fractured in an instant.
