Due to a ban on away supporters, Luton were excluded from the previous season's Littlewoods Cup. They hesitated over participation in 1987-88, but after a 1-1 draw in the first leg of this semi-final at Oxford, they now believe they have a real opportunity to reach only their second ever final. Oxford’s unexpected Milk Cup victory two years prior has given them a taste of Wembley's atmosphere. Furthermore, they are battling for survival in the First Division.
