As Headteacher Mr. Goddard explains, confronting the problem begins with acknowledging its existence. Though technology has evolved with the advent of texts and social media, the fundamental difficulties of social exclusion and belonging persist.
Rebel Sam and exemplary student Gabby occupy opposite positions within the academic world, yet both have been touched by bullying in their own ways. When Gabby begins to receive threatening text messages, Deputy Headteacher Mr. Drew takes on the role of investigator, determined to unmask the perpetrator and ensure accountability.
And when Sam – who has previously suffered bullying for his individuality – has a falling out with his close friend Dean, Mr. Drew is called upon to mediate as Dean’s distressed mother and sister arrive at the school demanding intervention.
