The week leading up to the final culminates with five remaining amateur cooks facing their toughest challenges yet. First, they must maintain composure during the notorious Invention Test, a timed trial where they have precisely one hour to create an exceptional dish entirely from scratch. Next, they confront the demanding Palate Test, a novel MasterChef challenge devised by John. Without prior knowledge, the contestants are given only a few minutes to sample his creation – a chicken pot pie with coleslaw – before being asked to meticulously list its ingredients based solely on smell and taste.
