A sum of half a million marks, intended as a fund for workers planning to occupy their factory in a bid to prevent its closure, vanishes following a violent robbery. Shortly thereafter, one of the workers, union official Broegger, is murdered.
The tension in Duisburg is palpable, and rumors are rife. Schimanski understands the urgency of the investigation. Yet, at this particular moment, his friend and colleague Thanner has departed, transferring to a branch of the BKA in Bonn.
