Chief Inspector Verjeat fights for justice after political figures murder an opposition volunteer and a police officer. He suspects the ambitious politician Lardatte is responsible and relentlessly pursues him, despite opposition from his superiors. During a tense confrontation with Lardatte, Verjeat disarms a hostage – the father of the murdered volunteer – revealing the councilman's involvement. This act earns Verjeat a warning about a forced transfer. Determined to continue his investigation, he teams up with a young detective, Lefévre, to create a plan to delay the transfer. As his departure nears, Verjeat struggles with a moral choice: uphold his principles and duty, or yield to bureaucratic pressure? The film explores the difficult intersection of politics, crime, and personal integrity in the life of Chief Inspector Verjeat.
