Неаполь — город миллионеров (1950)

Set on a Naples side street between 1940 and 1950, the film uses satire and comedy to follow the lives of everyday people during a time of upheaval. As Fascist rule gives way to Nazi occupation and then the Allied invasion, they cope with daily life through humor. Gennaro Iovine (Eduard De Filippo), a well-meaning troublemaker, keeps getting into trouble. His friend Pasquale (Toto), a rail worker, unexpectedly becomes a resourceful substitute – a stand-in corpse for hiding illegal goods, a jail substitute for those avoiding prison, and even a replacement participant in political rallies to protect speakers from violence. The film highlights the absurdity and strength of the human spirit in the face of extraordinary events, all through the power of comedy.
