In early 17th century Denmark, Anne lives in the village of Stevns, where her mother was wrongly accused of witchcraft. She becomes close to Marte, an older woman facing similar accusations from the community. This creates conflict with Anne's husband, Pastor Absalon, who previously saved Anne's mother from such charges but is now hesitant to intervene for Marte. The return of Anne's son stirs up her family's difficult past. As the village's suspicions grow, Anne confronts the repercussions of her history, her husband's uncertainty, and the fear that the past might repeat itself with her own family.
