Shortly after the Wall came down, a murder linked to the illicit art trade forged the first criminal connections between East and West. Inspector Schimanski and his partner Thanner join forces with their Berlin counterparts, Fuchs and Grawe, to investigate. The case centers on paintings once owned by the GDR, pilfered from museums and private collections to acquire hard currency. These works, hidden away by former Stasi operatives after reunification, are now slated for sale to the West through established black market channels. Authorities believe Düsseldorf art dealer Schrader to be the central figure in this network.
