The Cement Garden (1993)

Following their father's death, Julie and her siblings experience further hardship when their mother falls ill and passes away unexpectedly. To secure their financial future and avoid state intervention, their mother establishes a bank account for the four of them before she dies. To cope with their loss, Julie and Jack decide to conceal their mother's body in the basement, allowing them constant access to their home. As they navigate their grief, each sibling develops unusual coping mechanisms: Tom explores gender identity through cross-dressing, Sue withdraws and pours her emotions into a diary, and Jack and Julie develop feelings for each other. Their fragile family is disrupted when Julie introduces Derek, who becomes suspicious of Jack's role in hiding their mother. His investigation uncovers a network of secrets that exposes the family's fractured relationships. Forced to confront their past and present struggles through emotional revelations, each sibling must find their own way forward.
