Simpatico (1999)

This drama follows three childhood friends from Azusa as they confront their shared history and separate paths. As kids, Vinnie, Carter, and Rosie plotted to cheat at horse races for money. Their risky actions drew the attention of an official, leading the trio to blackmail him. Two decades later, Carter and Rosie are successful horse owners in Kentucky, about to sell their valuable stallion, Simpatico. Vinnie, however, has struggled with alcoholism and lives a difficult life in Pomona. He hatches a plan to win Rosie away from Carter, luring Carter to California and stealing his wallet. Vinnie also uses the opportunity to get back incriminating evidence from their past. Carter, needing his belongings and the damaging evidence returned, asks a grocery clerk named Cecilia, who knows Vinnie, for help. Cecilia embarks on a journey to Kentucky to retrieve the materials from Vinnie, exposing the complicated connections between these three people and their web of lies and longing.
