Family Diary (1962)

In 1945 Rome, Enrico, a struggling journalist, learns his younger brother Lorenzo has died. The brothers, raised in very different worlds – Enrico with their poor grandmother, Lorenzo with a wealthy aristocrat – had a complicated relationship of both love and conflict. Enrico’s efforts to protect Lorenzo during a 1930s reunion in Florence only increased his feelings of guilt about his privileged sibling. This story explores family obligations, the divide between social classes, and how people can feel both caring and resentful as Italy rebuilds after the war.
