In Ancient Egypt, during the reign of Akhenaten and his monotheistic rule, Akhesa is a 14-year-old princess. Impetuous and rebellious, she chafes under her father's control and desires to learn why her mother, Queen Nefertiti, has been sent away to the island of Elephantine. With the help of her half-brother, Prince Tutankhaten, or "Tut," Akhesa escapes the palace to find her mother. They journey down the Nile into the desert, facing danger from the mercenary Zannanza and priests of Amun Ra, who plot to overthrow the pharaoh for rejecting their god. Armed with only their innocence, Akhesa and Tut endure many hardships and encounter an unexpected destiny.
