This character study follows Cornelius, an arrogant music critic, as he writes a biography of a famous cellist. While staying at the cellist's home, hoping for an interview, Cornelius becomes absorbed in the relationships between the cellist and the women living there. His own biases are challenged as he investigates these personal connections. Driven by a need for the perfect story, Cornelius grows manipulative in his attempts to uncover the cellist’s private life. He eventually resorts to blackmailing the cellist into performing one of his own compositions. The film examines artistic ambition, manipulation, and the complexities of truth in biographical writing. It explores how the desire for power and fame can affect our choices.
