The MDNA Tour was Madonna's ninth concert tour, promoting her twelfth studio album of the same name. Performances at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida, during the North American leg were filmed for video release. Madonna called the tour "the journey of a soul from darkness to light." A commercial success, the tour also generated controversy. Billboard named it the highest-grossing tour of 2012, and it became the tenth highest-grossing tour of all time, surpassing Celine Dion's Taking Chances Tour to become the second highest-grossing tour by a female artist, after Madonna's Sticky & Sweet Tour.
