In New York City, Dr. Henry Harriston, a famous psychoanalyst, is close to a breakdown. He impulsively swaps houses with Beatrice Saulnier, a stranger from Paris. Neither knows much about the other, so they begin exploring each other's lives. But the exchange brings unexpected problems: Henry is violently attacked by Beatrice's lover, and Beatrice is mistaken for Dr. Harriston's replacement with his patients. As they adjust to their new lives and strange encounters, they grapple with questions of trust, identity, and connection in this unplanned experiment.
