During a period of political unrest and religious persecution, the film tells the story of two elderly Christians living under Emperor Nero's oppressive rule. To deflect blame for his actions, Nero issues an edict declaring war on Christianity, ordering all Christians to be captured and sent to the arena. Two individuals are captured just as Marcus, Rome's top military officer, encounters them. He is immediately drawn to their devoted stepdaughter, Mercia, and defies Nero's order by freeing the Christians. This act sets off a series of events that challenge his loyalty to the empire, his feelings for the Empress, and his growing bond with Mercia. As Rome descends into chaos and the persecution of Christians escalates, Marcus must navigate a complex world of power, politics, and faith to protect those he cares about and maintain his own principles.
