Piero travels to Paris with friends after winning a pool tournament in Luino. On the train, he meets Place Ramazzini, and a series of events unfold, leading to his arrest by Commissioner Juvet.Piero is released and finds lodging at Madame Lenormand's boarding house, where he meets Valentine, a painter with a complicated relationship with her husband and lover, Maurice.
