At the Institute Benjamenta, Jakob begins training as a servant under the strict guidance of Lisa Benjamenta. The institute is run by her brother Johannes and sister Lisa, who teaches unusual lessons in servitude involving strange movements, drawing circles, and obedience. As Jakob adjusts to this mysterious environment with seven other students seemingly trapped within its walls, his request for a better room is ignored, as no new students arrive and none leave for work.
