Dear God (1996)

Tom Turner, a charismatic con artist, faces a difficult choice: jail or a year of honest labor. He's assigned to the U.S. Post Office's dead letter office, a repository of forgotten letters filled with poignant and humorous messages.He discovers a deeply moving letter addressed to God and impulsively replies. The story spreads among his colleagues, and they launch a secret Good Samaritan operation, anonymously bringing joy to people. But their good deeds attract the attention of the postmaster general and local police. As Tom and his coworkers try to conceal their actions, they grapple with whether the reward of helping others justifies the risk to their carefully constructed lives.
