In 1918, in the peaceful Marais region along the Loire River in post-World War I France, two men grapple with everyday life. Riton struggles to manage his turbulent marriage and large family. Garris seeks peace at home, still affected by his time as a soldier. Their lives revolve around seasonal work and visits from friends: Tane, a relaxed train conductor who shares news, and Amédée, a lover of literature whose imagination offers escape. Together, they build bonds and find comfort in each other's company as they navigate the challenges of life, love, and loss during a period of significant change.
